It’s been weeks since we visited with John Bacile of antiques moderne ... and what a surprise we ran into. The store is overloaded with mid-century and consignment furnishings that took our collective breaths away. Everything was too wonderful ... the furniture ... the lamps ... the chairs ... the dressers ... the art work. As Stephen and I squeezed through the tiny walk space, John was off showing clients special pieces set aside just for them.
Now just between us and our mid-century enthusiasts ... antiques moderne has pieces we’ve seen only in pictures. No local estate sales or auctions can begin to fill up all 12,000 sq. ft. of showroom space. So how does John do it? He employs a cadre of pickers who travel Texas and the surrounding states, monitors internet sites daily, and works tirelessly to build his consignment business among individuals and "the trade" alike. That’s what it takes ... and more.
MORE as in reupholstery ... refinishing ... and lacquering! It’s an outstanding way to update or revitalize an older piece, especially one purchased at an estate sale. Which is where we leave you for now. But next week, the tale of Fred’s estate sale find ... a mid-century chair missing all its cushions. Can John redo this gorgeous piece? Can we afford it? LATER!
FYI ... before we left antiques modern, John was wrapping up a sale; new customers were coming in the door; and others continued to shop. It’s a busy place.
